Weight Training Course

The Weight Training Course will give you the theoretical and practical knowledge to work in a weight room environment.  In this 20 hour course you will learn how to build weight training, cardiovascular training and flexibility programs for a variety of clientele.  You will also learn how to perform weight training exercises safely and effectively, as well as get practical experience instructing clients in the weight room on safe and effective exercise technique.  Upon completion of this course you will be prepared to challenge the practical evaluation called the Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE).

Passing the ICE will register you with the BCRPA as a weight training instructor. This is a step before becoming a personal trainer. Weight training instructors can be employed by fitness facilities to monitor the weight room, help members with any questions they have, perform equipment orientations, and develop basic programs to meet the needs of the healthy general population.

You are welcome to start applying for jobs once you are a weight training instructor, even if you are still working your way through the personal training process. Many facilities will hire weight training instructors with the understanding that they will soon also become personal trainers. Often, facilities require their employees to play both roles: weight training instructor and personal trainer. When you have clients booked on your schedule, you play the role of a personal trainer. When you don’t have clients on your schedule, you oversee the facility in the role of a weight training instructor. Of course, this is all dependent on what type of facility you’re working in. We will address the topic of employment throughout this course so you better understand the landscape of the industry you are moving into.

Weight Training Course Rate: $350 + GST

All Weight Training Courses run over one weekend: Friday, 6pm – 10pm, Saturday and Sunday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
